It sure seems like it watching their custom Nike Elite Basketball socks making people reach deep into their pockets to get them. Not so long ago sneakerheads were willing to pay up to $100 for matching Galaxy socks. Nowadays, most of the limited edition shoes are joined by an equally limited run of custom Nike socks. We already profiled one version of the South Beach styled Nike Basketball Elite socks. However, for next weekend’s highly anticipated “Miami Vice” LeBron 9 P.S. Elite release, select Nike retail locations are printing up matching Elite Socks in a different colorway. One of the great things about LeBron James playing in Miami is… the South Beach theme. It’s one of the most popular, most wanted, and unfortunately most expensive sneaker themes on the market these days. Introduced in 2010, Nike released their first South Beach shoe to launch the Nike LeBron 8. Along with the shoes came a limited “It’s Good to be The King” t-shirt (shout out to osneaker.com!). This season, they released the LeBron Air Slide and LeBron 9 P.S. Elite, both using the eye-catching Green, Black and Pink color scheme. Finding any of these at retail is considered a miracle. Similar to other limited 9′s, the South Beach aka Miami Vice style got some matching socks from Nike Basketball. Like most or their LeBron socks – Galaxys, Freegums, Chinas, Hornets, Taxi, Floridians – the “Ocean Drive” style is limited so you won’t find them at regular stores. I was able to avoid re-sell offers on eBay and found a pair at rockemsocks. Continue reading for a gallery presenting all South Beach products on a nice family portrait.

This season Nike Basketball has started matching their special edition shoes with just as special Nike Elite basketball socks and t-shirts. And by special I mean limited so they’re pretty hard to find. Here’s a Limited Edition Nike LeBron 9 “Taxi” Elite Shirt & Socks combo. These items were sold at American Airlines Arena for Game One of the Heat vs Pacers series. The theme of the shirt and Nike dri-fit socks is for the LeBron 9 Elite Maize shoe, which is also knows as “Taxi”. The shirt and socks feature a checkered top with yellow center section with palm trees tying theme back to Miami. Additionally, a headband featuring the new LeBron logo with the words MVP on one side and the Miami Heat logo on the other completes the set. Search for “lebron taxi socks” on eBay if you’d like to get a pair.

Last week, Nike Basketball tweeted an interesting photo presenting their latest release – Nike LeBron 9 “Summit Lake Hornets” – along with special Nike Basketball Elite socks and an AW77 hoody, both in matching colors. During the release there was no information about the socks or the hoody being available online at nikestore.com, however, the socks have already appeared on eBay. Similar to the limited Galaxy All-Star socks the re-sellers have taken the appropriate measures to ensure they won’t be available for sane prices. Check out detailed photos of the whole pack, after the break.
